MORE than two months after stepping down from power, former president Rodrigo Duterte reunited with some former members of his Cabinet for leisure time in his hometown over the weekend.
A video posted by former Communications Secretary Martin Andanar online showed the 77-year-old former leader having a reunion at the Acacia Hotel in Davao City with past officials of the last administration.
Present were former executive secretary Salvador Medialdea, former Agriculture chief William Dar, former Labor secretary and now Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) chairman Silvestre Bello 3rd, former Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) president and CEO Vince Dizon, former Transportation chief Arthur Tugade, and former Interior and Local Government secretary Eduardo Año, among others.
Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, who was special assistant to the president (SAP) prior to becoming a lawmaker, was also present.
“I just want to thank you all again,” Duterte was shown telling his former Cabinet members.
“I couldn’t have made it, the exit, if there were problems such as corruption in my government. There was none. It was smooth,” he added.
Separate social media posts also showed the former president enjoying a “durian binge” at an eatery along Magsaysay Avenue still with his former team.
Andanar’s successor, Press Secretary Rose Beatrix “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles, last month paid a visit to Duterte, whom she said was “enjoying retirement” but was still helping people in need as a private citizen.
