Missouri police identify the four people that died as a result of Monday’s Amtrak derailment

Three of the four deceased victims are from the Kansas City area

The Missouri State highway patrol has released the identities of the four people that lost their lives in Monday’s tragic Amtrak Derailment.The crash, which happened just before 2 p.m. near rural Mendon, Missouri, claimed the lives of three passengers and the driver of a dump truck that was struck by the passenger train. The derailment also sent upwards of 150 passengers to area hospitals for treatment. Authorities have now confirmed that the driver Bill Barton II, 54, of Brookfield, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident by Chariton County Coroner Nye Bowyer. The three passengers that died due to injuries sustained during the derailment are all residents of the greater Kansas City area. They have been identified as Rochelle Cook, 58, from De Soto, KansasKim Holsapple, 56, from De Soto, KansasBinh Phan, 82, from Kansas City, MissouriCook and Holsapple were pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner. A GoFundMe has been set up for the families of the two victims from De Soto. After the incident, Pham was pronounced dead at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. They’re still collecting data and camera footage from the incident. NTSB sent a 14-person team to investigate the incident. In their Tuesday update, they clarified that two locomotives, six coach cars, one café car, and one luggage car all derailed.Amtrak confirmed that several cars derailed on train four traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago after striking Barton’s dump truck at an uncontrolled train crossing near Mendon, Missouri, at 12:43 p.m. There were approximately 275 passengers and 12 crew members on board.Several passengers on board the train when it derailed, including two Boy Scout troops, have detailed the harrowing experience.Several residents in the area have discussed the potential dangers of the crossing where the crash occurred.
