Real-life married couple Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell are set to host The Real Love Boat, a reality television show based on the classic series.
CBS announced that Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell will come aboard as the hosts of The Real Love Boat, a new reality dating competition series based on the classic comedy-drama series The Love Boat, which aired on ABC from 1977 to 1986. Executive produced by Aaron Spelling, The Love Boat took place on Princess Cruises’ Pacific Princess and featured famous actors as guest stars in every episode. Its theme song is one of the most recognizable and loved in television history.
The network’s latest reality show The Real Love Boat will bring singles together as they cruise the Mediterranean on a luxury cruise ship while looking for love. Just like in the original series, the crew members, including the captain and the cruise director, will have a hand in the matchmaking and help the contestants to navigate their relationships. After a month at sea, one winning couple will receive a cash prize, along with a once-in-a-lifetime trip with Princess Cruises, which serves as the exclusive partner of The Real Love Boat. The show fills the space of Love Island USA, which was dropped by the network and instead has moved to Peacock for the next two seasons.
According to Deadline, real-life married couple Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell will serve as the hosts of The Real Love Boat. They got married in 2007 and are parents to twin daughters born in 2008. In a joint statement, Rebecca and Jerry said, “After years of consuming, arguing about and dissecting unscripted television, hosting a reality series where a group of singles look for love while aboard a Princess Cruise ship, seemed like a dream come true.” The couple will oversee the contestants as they participate in destination dates and challenges. There will also be surprise singles who will put the competing couples’ compatibility and chemistry to the test.
Rebecca and Jerry continued on about this dream-come-true opportunity of hosting The Real Love Boat. They said, “When we heard it was aboard The Real Love Boat, that dream got an iconic theme song–’we promise something for everyone.'” Rebecca is a model-turned-actress who currently stars as Number One on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Jerry is an actor whose first feature film role was in the classic 1986 movie Stand By Me. Most recently, he joined The Talk as a permanent co-host in 2021, replacing Sharon Osbourne. As hosts, they will join the previously announced Real Love Boat cast member Hannah Ferrier of Below Deck fame. Hannah will serve as the ship’s matchmaker in order to help the contestants find potential partners.
The Real Love Boat seems like an exciting twist on the typical reality dating competition shows. The original series was beloved by fans, so it will be fun to see how the new show incorporates Easter eggs and tributes to its predecessor. As the contestants look for love on the boat with the help of Rebecca and Jerry, they are sure to set a course for adventure, with their minds on a new romance on The Real Love Boat.
